Devore.

The meaning of Devore: Devore is the removal of fibres from a fabric. Fabric is woven with two types of fibre, one of which is removed by the application of a chemical paste leaving the other fibre intact.

In this post I am going to talk about how I used the Devore technique within screen printing. Below are images of me carrying out this process. This first image shows the A4 piece of fabric I used for this technique; I chose Ateza as this is a specialist fabric that can be used for Devore.

These next two images show me mid way through the process, where I have placed my screen over the fabric, placed the Devore paste onto the screen and have begun to print. As the image to then right shows I found this a fun technique to carry out.

This next image is me lifting the screen to see whether or not the design has been printed on to the fabric successfully.

After I had cleaned my screen I hung my fabric somewhere safe to dry. Once the piece was dry I was able to heat press the fabric which allowed the design show through, the paste had turned a light brown due to the heat; therefore to remove this I washed the fabric in water. These next images show the final outcome of this process done with my design.

Overall I found this technique of printing interesting to the eye, however it is not one of my favorite screen printing process'.
